HUZZAH!!!! I am THRILLED to be able to report to you
that ALL the damage caused by Hurricane Wilma (that wench!) has finally been
repaired!
I know we frequently have requests to put up new
pictures now that the damage has been repaired, but to be honest, we didn't
make many CHANGES -- we mostly just put things back the way they were. This
is the reason we haven't been in much of a hurry to post new pictures. I do
still owe you a picture of the new sign, and I promise I will get to that
just as soon as I have a chance.
As always, I am thankful for each and every member of my staff.
Everyone was a great help in cleaning up after the hurricane, and all of us
continue to work hard to make this, your "home away from home" a great place
to visit.
The original "Wilma's damage" list is still here, along
with information as to the current status of the repairs.
Damages:
- Several windows were broken, resulting in water
damage and ruined carpeting.
- All broken windows were replaced.
- As far as we are aware, all water damage has been repaired.
- All carpets that had major water damage have been replaced.
- A number of doors were blown off their hinges.
- All damaged doors have been replaced.
- As always, we lost EXIT signs, fire extinguisher
box covers, and light covers.
- All of these items have been replaced or repaired.
- Some of the new parking lot lights were destroyed, and the poles
were damaged.
- The parking lot lights have been replaced.
- There was quite a bit of damage to our fences and
rails.
- All fence, gate, and rail damage has been repaired on both sides
of the street.
- The roof of the three-story pool-side building was
mostly blown off, and must be replaced.
- The roofs on both the three- and six-story building on the East
side have been replaced.
- The gutters on the West building have been replaced or repaired
as needed.
- Both awnings on the West side were torn off.
- The awning above the sign has been replaced.
- The awning on the third floor will not be replaced.
- The tree next to the picnic area on the West side
fell down, causing the canopy to snap off.
- The picnic area has been repaired, and the new canopy has been
installed.
- While we were waiting for the new canopy, we also took the
opportunity to stain the picnic area, and a new picnic table has been
ordered to replace the one that was there for so many years and turned
out to be in worse shape than we thought.
- Many, many trees were lost, broken, or damaged.
- All our broken trees have been removed. Those that could be saved
were.
- The big CANADA HOUSE sign in the East parking lot
was broken out on one side.
- THE NEW SIGN IS IN!!!!!!!!!!!
- A picture window in the lounge was shattered,
leaving everything in the lounge wet and covered in shards of glass.
- Everything in the lounge that was damaged or destroyed has been
repaired or replaced.
For those who are interested, the pictures of the
damage are still posted here.
An update on the deductible that all our owners had to
pay last year: We have added a line item in the Reserves for both
Associations, which we have called a Catastrophe Fund. That line item is
intended to cover any insurance deductibles that may come up in the future.
We continue to be grateful for the prayers and concern of all our
owners and guests, and look forward to seeing you all soon.
